Le Dupleix, Pondicherry

A Hidesign hotel housed in an 18th century French mansion, successfully combining the flavours of colonial and traditional Indian architecture and design with the added touch of contemporary innovations - 14 individually designed rooms and an excellent restaurant with a French-Indian menu. It would be a sin not to describe the service as generous and welcoming, and yet, unlike the simplistic approach of Bangala, the staff seems to have undergone some quite sophisticated training. The greatest charm of Le Dupleix , however, lies in the fact that it is a five-minute walk to the Bay of Bengal or, alternately, the shopping epicentre of Pondicherry (it is literally around the corner from the hotel). The countless little shops, it seems, attract everyone who likes strolling and loves French design, clothing and interior with a little something extra typical exclusively to this particular part of the world.

Our bungalows are sparsely spread and discreetly hidden over 30 acres and 700m of beach front. Each one is of a unique inspiration, furniture, size, facility, ranging from ones for couples to ones for families or friends with lounge and private gardens.

They are known for their commitment to reduce the impact on the environment. They are partly built using reclaimed building material from South Indian Colonial houses, Chettinad palaces and Kerala planter’s mansions. They are fully equipped with Solar hot water system, low comsuption bulbs and Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Not all our accommodation have air conditioning for environmental reasons and we have most of the time a refreshing sea breeze.
